This is our most successful program so far. In mid 2018,  when we had first started HEN, we had embarked on a pilot food donations programme in partnership with Trans Family Service Centre (FSC) in Bedok.

This was to help the financially trapped families in Fenghshan with $50 worth of dry food rations every month. Our first delivery for 10 families took place on Monday 11th June 2018 and we continued for 3 months. The recipients families were extremely grateful as our food deliveries came right on time for their end of Ramadan fasting celebrations.

Now, in Nov 2020, we are assisting over 50 families monthly in Tampines, Bukit Merah, Yishun and other families who hv been referred to us from all around Singapore. For the whole of 2020, we assisted more than 500 families! Each family receives $50 worth of food rations or $50 in NTUC Vouchers every month.

On the 12th of September 2019, we held a cooking class for children in association with MWS Tampines. After learning to cook a healthy pizza and a fruits salad, the children listened to a nutrition talk and quiz. The children went home with a beautiful gift to start their cooking adventures at home!

Testimony letter to HEN from MWS FSC Tampines :
“On behalf of MWS FSC-Tampines, I will also like to thank you and the volunteers for conducting the cookery class on 12 September. We appreciate the volunteers making the effort to engage and interact with the children. Our children also gave positive feedback that they had a great time. Thank you once again and we look forward to the continuous future collaborations between MWS FSC – Tampines and HEN

On Friday 5th April 2019, we had an educational fun event hosting 18 children and 3 teachers from the Malay Youth Literary Assoc at the National Museum of Singapore. The children were first given a mini tour of the museum, followed by snacks and HEN custom designed activities including a pinata hitting game! Highly successful and another visit is planned for 2020.

Currently all children’s outings are on hold due to the pandemic.

We also started on a storytelling programme for the children of these underprivileged families. This took off on 6th June 2019 at Fengshan Community Centre in Bedok for also 3 months. Without a doubt, it was very well received by the children and they looked forward to our sharing of Singapore Stories and our personalised games and activities. We have embarked on a storytelling program with SportsHub Library from June 2019 onwards as well.

Currently all face to face storytelling sessions are on hold due to the pandemic.

But all is not lost! We have started an online Zoom Storytelling with the children of Malay Youth Literary Assoc in Bedok Reservoir. Its conducted every Tuesday 10.30am – 11am. If you are keen to volunteer with us as a Volunteer Zoom Storyteller, please send an email to Surabhi Singh at No experience is required as all training will be provided.

To empower the women of marginalised families with ways and means to meet their daily needs by teaching them basic skills for eg interview skills, grooming skills, craft and cooking, exercise to improve their well being or finding for them suitable child minding avenues.

We are currently working with Beyond Social Services (BSS) to help in the growth and development of a group of home bakers called Bakers Beyond in Tiong Bahru. Our first team building workshop just took place on Friday 3rd May 2019 at Village Hotel, Bugis

Due to the pandemic and as we couldnt meet up personally, we held online Zoom Women Empowerment workshops in June and July 2020 to teach these home bakers the skills required to make it out there. Our own volunteers Stacey Lwin and Sujatha Pillai conducted Self Care workshops and also taught them how to be social media savvy when marketing their baked goods and the techniques required to handle difficult customers.

To help bring cheer and hope to many elders of families who may be neglected and are in need of company and assistance during this pandemic, we are working closely with Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) on an online befriending programme. If you are keen to be a Zoom Elderly Befriender, please send an email to Nilofar Iyer at No experience required as training will be provided by MWS.
